The Pride Center of the Capital Region is excited to announce that the Queer Youth Chorus has kicked off for the 2011 year! The Queer Youth chorus is a bi-weekly chorus for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) youth and their allies. The Chorus is a safe and empowering space for young people who love to sing, perform or just want to have a great time with friends. Last year the chorus had 15 awesome youth involved and together they had the opportunity to perform at the Alternative Prom and the Capital Pride Festival in front of over 10,000 people! Their repertoire included Don’t Stop Believing and Seasons of Love from Rent.
Join now to find out what’s on the song list for this year’s performances! Through participation in the Queer Youth Chorus, young people have the opportunity to meet other youth, make friends, and develop and strengthen their ability to express themselves. The kick off rehearsal was held on Sunday, January 30th. We’re excited about the energy and dedication of this year’s members and we’re always looking for more fresh faces and singing voices! Rehearsals will be held on every 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month at 6pm at the Pride Center of the Capital Region, 332 Hudson Avenue, Albany. If you are a LGBTQ or ally youth between the ages of 13 and 18 who finds yourself singing in the car, in the shower, or along with GLEE episodes, or you know someone who is and does, join us at our next rehearsal! For more information about the Queer Youth Chorus or to sign up, contact Curran Saile at csaile@capitalpridecenter.org or call 462-6138. We hope to see you there!
